Dana Point Turkey Trot 10K
Thanksgiving Day - November 27, 2008
DANA POINT, CA – Wayne Joness, Long Distance Running Committee Chairman for the Southern California Association of USA Track & Field, has announced another exciting championship race for 2008.
“We are extremely pleased that the 31st annual Dana Point Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 27, will serve as our 2008 Southern California USATF 10K Championship, says Wayne. One of America's most scenic coastal road races, the Dana Point Turkey Trot is America’s largest Thanksgiving day road race drawing more than more than 10,000 participants.”
Sponsored by the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce and directed by International City Racing, the Turkey Trot benefits the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. The race features chip timing and $3,500 of prize money for the 10K…which draws a very competitive field of elite runners.

1st Place Male- $1,000 1st Place Female- $1,000
2nd Place Male- $500 2nd Place Female- $500
3rd Place Male- $250 3rd Place Female- $250
Prize money available to all runners, with or without USATF membership.
The race’s 10K/5K courses tour Dana Point’s beautiful beaches, majestic cliffs and coves of the Dana Point Marina and Doheny State Park and passes by the historic tallship, Pilgrim, that is moored in Dana Point Harbor.
In 2007, the men’s 10K race was won in 29:55 by Fernando Cabado of Gray, TN, as the top-6 finishers runners broke 31:00. The women’s 10K was won Irvine’s Julie Swail in 35:23 with the first 8 women breaking 38:00. Both the men’s and women’s course records were set in 2006: Men- 29:20 by Noah Tavar (Oro Valley, AZ), Women- 33:23 by Lauren Fleshman (Canyon Country, CA)…28 minutes after winning the 5K in a course record 16:28!!
