Long Beach International City Bank Half Marathon
Sunday, October 12, 2008
LONG BEACH, CA – Wayne Joness, new Long Distance Running Committee Chairman for the Southern California Association of USA Track & Field, has announced another exciting championship race for 2008.
“We are extremely pleased that the Long Beach International Citybank Half-Marathon on Sunday, October 12th, will serve as our 2008 Southern California USATF Half-Marathon Championship, says Wayne. Now in its 2nd decade under the direction of Olympic Pole Vaulter and International City Racing CEO, Bob Seaman, the Long Beach Half-Marathon has grown to more than 6,000 runners. The Long Beach Marathon and Half-Marathon courses are widely considered to be among the most beautiful in the United States with spectacular oceanfront vistas, charming seaside communities, and metropolitan start and finishes. Flat, fast and scenic, 80% of the race courses traverse the oceanfront, or are within sight of it. We think the Long Beach Half-Marathon is the ideal Southern California Half-Marathon to serve as our Championship.”
The 2007 Men’s winner was La Habra’s James Lander (1:07:18) while the Women’s winner was Mesa, Arizona’’s Michelle Resendez (1:19:28).
